The Daniel Oxendine Scholarship
About Daniel Oxendine
At the age of 13, Mr. Daniel Wesley Oxendine's mother asked him what he would like for Christmas. His response was, "Ma I want a pair of clippers so that I can practice on my head". Well, after Daniel mastered his own head, he became a traveling barber! Daniel loved cutting hair and it was his passion. He particularly made it point to be of service to those that could not afford to go to the barbershop. Daniel was considered by many to be an old soul. He was always happy and had an encouraging word to give to others. In his spare time he could be found at the basketball court or simply enjoying time with his family.
After Daniel graduated from high school, he attempted for three years to get into a barbering program. But lack of resources and funds were a constant issue. There he began working second shift at Mikoto's Restaurant in Fayetteville N.C. in order to save up enough funds to enroll into school.
Finally, with monies saved up from working and with the help of his mother and his church family, he was able to enroll at Robeson Community College Barbering program in Spring of 2017. But unfortunately on the night of September 14th 2017, while he was coming home from work, an oncoming driver ran through a stop light hitting Daniel and soon after he passed away. Daniel will always be remembered for the hard work, effort and sacrifice that he into pursuing his dream of becoming a professional barber stylist.
